In the article "The Smc5/6 Complex Is an ATP-Dependent Intermolecular DNA Linker", Takaharu Kanno and his colleagues, from the Camilla Sjögren's group (Karolinska Institute, Stockholm), show that yeast Smc5/6 complex can interact with plasmid DNA in two different ways. The first one solely relies on electrostatic interactions and is mediated by ATP-binding to Smc5/6. The second one is produced after ATP hydrolysis and can lead to the concatenation of plasmid through a mechanism called "topological entrapement".

This great work has been published in Cell Reports in September 2015 and we had the honor to contribute to the production of the graphical abstract.
