Structure (Vol.22 (5), 2014)

Here is the cover of the volume 22 (issue 5) of the journal Structure published in 2014. This picture has been created by Lionel Trésaugues (founder of ShapeSciFx) to illustrate his article, "Structural basis for phosphoinositide substrate recognition, catalysis, and membrane interactions in human inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatases."1 (link to the full text).

In this article, Lionel Trésaugues et al. present different crystal structures of complexes between products and members of the inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatases family which challenge the paradgim previously established concerning the ligand-binding mode occuring in this family.

The picture is an allegory of the process of scientific research while it is required to correct and update previous models according to the availability of new data.
